The Immigrant Council for Arts Innovation (ICAI) is seeking volunteer board members who are passionate about the arts and committed to supporting newcomer and immigrant artistic communities. We welcome applicants of all ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, professions, and lived experiences.

For this recruitment cycle, we are specifically prioritizing candidates with experience in:

  • Board Secretary responsibilities (governance, record keeping, policy support)

  • Accounting or financial management (budgeting, bookkeeping, financial oversight)

  • Government relations and advocacy (municipal, provincial, or federal engagement)

We also welcome applicants with alternate skill sets that strengthen ICAI’s governance and strategic direction.

Position Details:

Term: 2 years / term with 3 terms maximum

Meeting Frequency: Every two months, 6 times a year (with occasional committee meetings as needed)

Deadline: June 31, 2026

Preferred Qualifications:

These qualifications are preferred and will strengthen an application, but they are not mandatory. We encourage individuals to apply whether or not they meet every listed requirement. Passion for ICAI’s mission and a commitment to supporting newcomer and immigrant arts communities are the most important qualities. 

  • Experience in government relations or public policy

  • Financial management, accounting, or fund development experience (including grassroots fundraising and grant writing)

  • Knowledge of performing arts, visual arts, galleries, or curatorial practices

  • Cultural management experience

  • Minimum one year of prior board or committee experience (preferred but not required)

  • Experience in nonprofit or arts administration or governance 

Board Responsibilities:

  • Support and uphold ICAI’s mission, vision, and values

  • Attend all board meetings, committee meetings, and the AGM

  • Complete assigned tasks on time and to a high standard

  • Contribute professional expertise to strengthen ICAI’s strategic direction

  • Help identify and solicit resources that advance ICAI’s goals

  • Promote ICAI within your networks and community

  • Help build a base of potential partners, donors, audience members, and supporters

  • Participate in annual strategic planning processes
