"Imaginary Worlds" is a mixed bill featuring two incredible dance performances: "Detour" by Error 404 Dance Found Collective, and "COME HELL OR HIGH WATER" by Marynia Fekecz and Penelope Morout
"Detour" Created by Syrian-Canadian artists Mario Lemvar and Zaria Rajha, "Detour" is a striking and emotionally charged physical work that disrupts linear perception and urges audiences to examine the invisible forces shaping their view of the world. Through movement, sound, and metaphor the artists struggle to stay awake in a world that often feels numb. Both lost and searching, they are caught between two worlds: the one we inhabit and the one we yearn to see. At times sarcastic, the work points to the filters and assumptions we use every day.
What kind of lens are you using to see the world? What filters shape your thoughts? What would happen if those filters disappeared?
“Detour” invites curiosity. It asks audiences to sit in places they don’t usually sit, to take on a viewpoint they might not typically perceive. It is a reminder of the potency of our existence—of our need to question, to feel, to be transformed.
"COME HELL OR HIGH WATER" COME HELL OR HIGH WATER is an interdisciplinary dance performance that uses symbolic images to examine the nature of power in human relationships.
During this shapeshifting performance, the viewer is invited to follow the journey of five characters encountering boundaries in the exercising of power. Both space and performers are tested, shifting constantly in relation to the other and entering a vicious circle of losing and gaining power, flocking, twirling, falling but always together. Like the wild geese during their ultimate migratory journey, they “dare to claim the sky” seeking freedom within constraint. (Maya Angelou, Caged Bird.)
