Executive Summary

The Black History Month (BHM) Showcase 2026 is a flagship public event that celebrates Black excellence across arts, culture, entrepreneurship, and innovation in Southern Alberta. The showcase is designed as both a cultural celebration and a visibility platform, highlighting the talent, creativity, leadership, and innovation within Black and BIPOC communities.

Hosted annually during Black History Month, the event brings together Black performers, entrepreneurs, creatives, community members, institutional partners, and allies for an immersive and engaging experience. The showcase blends live performances, entrepreneurial pitch presentations, and community engagement into one cohesive program that is accessible, celebratory, and impactful.

Beyond the live experience, the BHM Showcase is intentionally positioned as a media-forward event. All programming is designed to support storytelling, documentation, and promotional amplification before, during, and after the event. Event Overview The BHM Showcase is a multi-day Black History Month celebration that serves as a cornerstone of the BIPOC Foundation’s February programming. The event is intentionally designed to blend cultural celebration with opportunity-driven programming, creating a platform where Black and BIPOC talent can be seen, supported, and celebrated. By combining artistic expression, entrepreneurship, and community dialogue, the showcase not only commemorates Black history but also contributes to ongoing conversations around equity, inclusion, and community development in Southern Alberta.

Event Structure & Programming

Cultural Welcome & Community Engagement The event opens with a cultural welcome that acknowledges Black history, community presence, and shared values. This segment includes opening remarks, institutional acknowledgments, and interactive engagement designed to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

Pitch Competition

The pitch competition provides a platform for Black and BIPOC entrepreneurs, creatives, and social innovators to present their ideas in a supportive, high-visibility environment. Participants receive exposure, feedback, and potential access to mentorship and resources, helping to strengthen local Black-led initiatives and enterprises.

Talent Showcase

The talent showcase highlights Black excellence across music, dance, spoken word, and multidisciplinary performance. This segment celebrates artistic expression while offering performers professional-stage exposure and opportunities for continued engagement with the BIPOC Foundation’s creative programs.
